Restorative

We work closely with you as your dental partner to help you achieve optimum health. Our goal is to prevent dental problems from developing in the first place. Even with that goal in mind, restorative dentistry is sometimes essential to restore and repair the damage, decay, and disease inside your mouth.

At Chico Dental Design Studio, we empower you as the patient with education and information about your condition so you fully understand your different treatment options, and you make a decision that is best for you.

Dr. Hiersche is passionate about staying at the forefront of current dental procedures and medical research. As a regular attendee and recent graduate of the world-renowned Kois Center, Dr. Hiersche is committed to continuing education courses in advanced dentistry, so he can provide you with the best possible care.

We offer a variety of restorative services:

Fillings are used to restore a decayed tooth and prevent it from further decay. We first remove the decay from the tooth and then put filling material inside the cavity.

Crowns & Bridges are good solutions when the decay or damage is too severe for a simple filling. These treatments are used to replace and/or cover broken or decayed teeth, restoring your bite to its normal shape, size, and strength.

Root Canal Therapy can save a tooth that has decayed to the point of infection. During the procedure, we remove the nerve and pulp from the inside of your tooth and carefully clean and seal your tooth. This prevents the spread of infection to other teeth and tissues.

Periodontal Treatments are needed when periodontal disease (gum disease) develops, causing inflammation and irritation of your gums. We also use these treatments preventatively, because with regular screenings, we can often recognize the earliest signs of gum disease before you’re able to actually see it or feel it yourself. We take regular periodontal measurements and monitor the health of your gum tissues during your dental exams. Mild periodontal disease (gingivitis) can sometimes be reversed with improved oral habits in your at-home care routine. We also offer special mouth washes that help patients with certain types of bacteria or acidity levels that are known contributors to the development of periodontal disease. For more significant cases, Dr. Hiersche can perform procedures such as a gingivectomy to remove the diseased tissue.

Implants are a reliable solution to replace teeth that you have lost due to injury, gum disease, or decay.  Implants are a stable and natural-looking replacement that restores function to your mouth and gives you back a confident smile. Implants are also used sometimes to support multiple teeth when bridgework or crowns are utilized to restore and repair your bite. At Chico Dental Design Studio, we only work with top of the line implant solutions. Dr. Hiersche places Straumman implants. The trusted specialists that he refers to for the most complex implant cases work with Straumman implants and Nobel Biocare implants. For more information about implants, please visit our Implants & Dentures page.

Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) can cause joint sounds and discomfort during chewing, talking, or at rest due to underlying joint and/or muscle issues. Sometimes this can be due to trauma and deterioration of the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) or excessive loading and stress. Multiple missing, worn, and/or broken teeth can also be associated with the development of TMD. Depending on the cause and current condition of the teeth, muscles, and TMJ, this issue may continue to progress and worsen over time. Sometimes a detailed evaluation and imaging is required to assess these issues. Dr. Hiersche has received extensive ongoing training in this area through the Kois Center and also works with specialists who can help address TMD.

Nightguards/Occlusal Splints are devices that are fabricated to protect your teeth from grinding and reduce excessive stress and loading of the facial muscles and joints. A nightguard or splint will often produce immediate relief from the headaches and jaw pain that grinding can cause. During your exam, we will look for signs that indicate you have been grinding your teeth. If you know or suspect it is an issue for you, please let us know.

Oral Surgery can solve more complex restorative issues. Dr. Hiersche and his team perform a variety of surgical treatments. At times, after a thorough consultation with us, we may recommend that you see one of our most trusted referral partners for your oral surgery case. You can rest assured that we refer regularly to these oral surgeons and are confident in their excellent quality of care.

Your comfort during and after treatments is a top priority for us. In our office, we offer nitrous oxide, music, a weighted blanket, and oral sedation. Our entire team is dedicated to ensuring your visit is a gentle and pain-free one. Please visit our Post-Op Docs and Info Page for additional information that will help speed up the healing process after your procedure.
